Everything Jom Local Can Do
One page, every feature — for travellers exploring Perlis and businesses growing here. No fluff, no skipped details.
For Travellers
Jom Local is your pocket companion for exploring Perlis — a friendly map, an AI guide who actually knows the state, and a way to save and share the spots you love. Everything below is exactly what the app can do today, so you always know what to expect before you tap. Some features work instantly as a guest, others need a free account, and a couple are still being built — we've marked those clearly.
Discover & Map
Browse without signing in
Open the app and start exploring straight away — no account needed. The Explore feed and the full interactive map are both open to guests, so you can get a feel for Perlis before you decide to sign up.
Category filters on Explore and Map
Narrow things down to Food, Cafe, Hotel, Tourist spots, Parks, Mosques and more. On the map you can select several categories at once, toggle 'saved only', and pins load progressively as you pan around so things stay smooth even in busy areas.
Rich place details
Every place has a photo carousel, opening hours, price band, and handy tag chips explaining 'why we like it', plus a local tip from someone who actually knows the area. Restaurants and cafes show their menu, hotels show amenities, petrol stations show fuel types, and bus/train/ferry stops show full route info — first and last departure, frequency, fare, and the stop list.
Turn-by-turn navigation
Get real driving, walking, or cycling directions with a live route line, step-by-step turn banners, ETA, distance and speed, and automatic re-routing if you go off track. A single tap recenters the map on you.
In-app search
Jump straight to what you're after with a quick search across the whole catalogue. If nothing matches exactly, the app suggests the closest 'did you mean' result so you're never stuck.
Sponsored spots on Explore and the map
You'll occasionally see a marked sponsored card in Explore's collections (labelled things like 'Premium Exclusive') or a highlighted sponsored pin on the map. These are paid placements from local businesses, not personal recommendations from us or Kak Lin — everything else you see is organic.
Signing In & Your Account
Email or social sign-in
Create an account with email and password, or sign in instantly with Google. On iPhone, Sign in with Apple is also available. All three get you the same account — pick whichever is quickest.
Smart account linking
If you've previously signed up with a password and later try Google or Apple sign-in using the same email, Jom Local recognises the match and asks you to confirm your password once to safely link the two — instead of just failing silently.
Guest mode
Not ready to commit? Tap 'Skip for now' on the sign-in screen and go straight into the app. You can always sign in later once you find a reason to save something.
Referral code at signup
If a local business gave you a referral code, pop it into the optional field during registration — it's a small way of saying thanks to the business that pointed you to the app.
Sign out
One tap on your Profile tab signs you out cleanly and clears your device's cached trip data, ready for the next person or a fresh start.
Reviews & Community Photos
Rate and review places
Leave a star rating and a written review from any place's page or straight from the map's bottom-sheet card. You'll need to be signed in for this one, so your reviews stay tied to your profile.
See the full picture
Every place shows its rating breakdown as a simple bar chart alongside the actual reviews, so you can judge for yourself whether it matches what you're after.
Owner replies
When a business owner responds to a review, you'll see their reply right under it — on the place page, on the map card, and on profile review lists — so conversations aren't one-sided.
Add your own photos
Snap and upload a photo to any place directly from the map — even as a guest. Your contribution helps other travellers, and if you're signed in it also shows up as a 'Memory' on your own profile.
Add a brand-new place
Can't find somewhere on the map? Use the 'add place' form to submit it yourself — name, category, area, hours, phone, description, and even a local tip. Use 'my location' to drop the pin exactly where you're standing, and it joins the shared catalogue for everyone.
Ask Kak Lin — Your AI Trip Planner
Chat with Kak Lin
Kak Lin is Jom Local's AI travel guide, built specifically for Perlis — ask her anything from 'best cafes near me' to 'plan me a day out with the kids' and she'll reply with quick-tap suggestions, place recommendation cards, and full day-by-day itinerary cards you can save straight into a trip. You'll need to be signed in to chat with her.
Finds places even Jom Local hasn't listed yet
If you ask about somewhere that isn't in the app yet, Kak Lin can search the wider web for it and, with your OK, add it to the shared catalogue automatically — tagged as 'Added by AI' — so the next traveller who asks benefits too.
Trip Planning
AI-generated trip plans
Every itinerary Kak Lin builds for you lands in 'My Trips', where you can reorder stops, remove ones you don't fancy, pull in extra stops from your saved places, mark a trip as finished, or delete it entirely. Everything syncs to the cloud so it's there when you open the app on any device.
Set a trip active on the map
Mark a plan as active and its stops overlay right on the map, so you can navigate through your day without hopping back and forth between screens.
Trip notes
Each trip has its own free-text notes pad — perfect for packing lists or reminders — that saves automatically as you type and syncs to the cloud.
Trip group chat
Chat with everyone joining your trip in a dedicated group thread. Flip on the AI toggle or just mention '@Kak Lin' and she'll jump in with suggestions that reference the actual places on your planned route.
Invite friends to a trip
Bring an existing friend into your trip's plan and group chat with a couple of taps from the invite screen.
Saved places
Bookmark any place you like the look of and find it later in your dedicated Saved tab. Saving needs an account, since your list syncs across devices — but once you're in, it's a single tap from any place page or the map card.
Friends & Profile
Add friends by code
Everyone gets a personal Friend Code. Enter someone else's code to send them a friend request, or share your own using the built-in share button so they can add you.
Manage requests
Accept or reject incoming friend requests, or cancel ones you've already sent — all from the Friends tab.
Remove or block
Had a change of heart, or need to stop unwanted requests? You can remove a friend or block them entirely, either from the Friends list or from their profile.
Visit profiles
Tap into a friend's profile to see their bio, avatar, and — if they've kept their account public — their photo 'Memories' and reviews. Private accounts show a simple locked message instead, respecting their choice.
Your own profile
Your Profile tab shows your animal avatar, bio, public/private status, a 'Memories' photo grid built from everywhere you've uploaded photos, and your own reviews. Edit your name, bio, avatar, and privacy toggle any time from Edit Profile.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — browsing the map, Explore feed, place details, and navigation are all completely free, even without an account. Some features like saving places, chatting with Kak Lin, and leaving reviews need a free sign-in, but there's no subscription or paywall for travellers. You may spot the occasional sponsored card or pin paid for by a local business, but that never changes what you're charged — it's still free for you.
For Businesses
Jom Local isn't just for explorers — it's also home to every kaki niaga (business owner) in Perlis who wants to be found by the people already searching for great local spots. The Business Portal is where you list your place, keep its details fresh, chat with customers through reviews, and — if you want extra visibility — run ad campaigns paid for with SUK, our in-app currency. Everything below reflects exactly what's live in the portal today, including the bits still being finished, so you know precisely what to expect.
Getting Listed
Submit a brand-new place
Can't find your business on Jom Local yet? Search for it using our AI-assisted lookup (which checks Google Places for you) or fill in a manual form yourself. Once submitted, your listing sits as "pending" until a member of our admin team reviews and approves it — there's no fixed turnaround time since it's a manual check, but you'll get a notification the moment it's approved, or rejected with the reason why.
Claim an existing place
If your business is already listed — maybe someone else added it, or it came from our initial Perlis map data — you can claim it instead of creating a duplicate. Just give a short reason proving you're the rightful owner, and once an admin approves the claim, your account is linked to that existing listing so its reviews and history stay intact.
Edit a live listing
Once you're live (or even while still pending review), you can update your phone number, website, description, and opening hours anytime from the listing's Basic Info screen, using a proper hours editor instead of free-text fields. Every change is checked on our servers to confirm you actually own the listing before it saves.
Manage menu, amenities, fuel types & custom fields
The Advanced screen on your listing lets you switch feature cards on or off, add and edit menu items (name, price, category, description), tick which amenities and — for petrol stations — fuel types you offer, and add your own custom key/value details. Photos are uploaded when you first add your place; there isn't yet a separate photo-gallery editor for listings that are already live, and room-by-room details for hotels/homestays (beds, capacity, size) aren't editable in the portal yet either.
Delete a place or withdraw a submission
Changed your mind, or closing up shop? You can delete a live listing (with automatic refunds for any active ad spend or auction bids tied to it) or simply withdraw a submission that's still pending or was rejected — no admin needed for this one.
Reviews & Reputation
Respond to reviews
See every review left on your place, with a full rating breakdown and filters to sort through them, and post one owner reply per review so customers (and future ones reading it) know you're listening. A "report review" button is there for flagging something inappropriate, but note it currently only shows a confirmation on your screen — it doesn't yet reach our moderation team, so for anything urgent, contact support directly instead.
Analytics (Insights)
See how customers find and engage with you
Your Insights dashboard shows profile views, how many people tapped for directions, called you, or clicked through to your website, plus unique vs. returning visitors and your peak activity times. This is real data pulled from actual customer taps inside the Jom Local app — not estimates — and only you can see it, since it's locked to your own listings.
Advertising
Ad Campaign dashboard
Your campaigns hub shows every ad you've run or are running — status, spend against budget, impressions, and clicks — all in one place. Pause or resume a campaign whenever you like, stop one early and get an automatic refund for the unspent budget, or permanently delete campaigns that have finished.
Smart Pins (cost-per-click campaigns)
Pick how many days you want your pin boosted for, and we deduct the cost upfront from your SUK Wallet at a flat rate of 60 SUK per hour (1 SUK per minute). Clicks and impressions are still tracked and shown in your reporting, but billing itself is time-based rather than truly pay-per-click, so you know your cost in advance with no surprises.
Exclusive category auctions
Want the top spot in a themed collection like Foodie's Paradise, Nature Escapes, Heritage Trail, or Comfortable Stays? Bid SUK against other businesses for it. Every new bid must beat the current highest, and if you get outbid, your SUK is refunded automatically and instantly — no waiting around. Admins set up each auction with an end time, and some auctions are recurring, automatically reopening for a fresh round after they close.
All Places spot ads (tiered pricing)
Pick specific numbered spots (1 to 100) in the main All Places grid to feature your business in. Spots are grouped into three price tiers — the top 10 spots cost more per hour, the next 30 cost a bit less, and the remaining 60 are the most affordable — and you pay for however many hours you choose, upfront. If someone else grabs a spot a split second before you, our system catches that automatically and only charges you for the spots you actually secured.
SUK Wallet
Top Up SUK
SUK is the currency that powers every ad campaign and auction bid on Jom Local. Top-up packages are ready to go (1,000 SUK for RM10, 5,000 SUK for RM50, 10,000 SUK for RM100) and the screen is fully built — but real-money payment processing isn't switched on yet, so top-ups are temporarily unavailable while we finish that integration. We'll announce it the moment it's ready; in the meantime, any SUK you have from referrals or admin adjustments works exactly as normal for ads and auctions.
Transaction history
Every movement in and out of your SUK Wallet — top-ups, campaign charges, auction bids and refunds, referral bonuses, admin adjustments — is listed with a proper receipt you can open for any individual transaction. Handy for keeping your own records straight.
Business referral program
You get your own unique referral code to share with other business owners via your phone's share sheet or by copying the link. For every business that signs up using your code, you earn SUK automatically — track your total signups and SUK earned right from the Referrals page.
Notifications & Account
Notifications
Get notified when a submission is approved or rejected, with the reasoning included for rejections. The notification system is also built to support alerts for new reviews and claim updates, but heads up — those two aren't switched on yet in practice, so for now you'll mainly see approval and rejection notices.
Owner profile & language settings
Update your display name and phone number, and switch the entire portal between English and Bahasa Melayu with one tap. Your settings page also shows your current SUK Wallet balance and gives you quick access to sign-out and our legal/support pages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — submitting and getting your place listed costs nothing. You only spend SUK if you choose to run ad campaigns or bid in auctions for extra visibility later on.
